Vision & mission

De Haar Castle’s vision is:
Amid the hustle and bustle of modern life and ever advancing technological developments, people in the 21st century are increasingly in search of keeping in touch with the past. The densely populated Netherlands offers little in terms of green and nature. Yet its people have more and more leisure time and more money to spend. On a global scale, the Netherlands is a popular destination for tourists, many of whom are interested in the country’s culture and history.

De Haar Castle’s mission is:
De Haar Castle offers visitors, whether private or business, an opportunity to escape the pressures of our fast-paced daily lives, bringing them back to the past, and closer to nature and their cultural heritage. Visitors to De Haar Castle will taste the atmosphere of the castle, its park and gardens, created by the architect Cuypers and the landscape architect Copijn, and get a feel of what life was like in the times of Baron Etienne van Zuylen van Nijevelt in the early 20th century.

Based on this mission, the De Haar Castle Foundation has developed three product groups:

  • Tourism: this includes guided tours of the castle, visits to the park, the souvenir and gift shop, and catering  facilities on the estate.
  • Fairs and special events: various small and large-scale events are organised around the castle each year.
  • Corporate and private events: during the restoration period, these events will be mainly restricted to weddings.

Alongside these three main product groups, De Haar Castle offers small products that are in line with its mission, such as special children’s tours and cultural events.
