Latest news concerning the restoration: work Autumn 2010

Work inside:

  • The pile foundation is in place in the basement and restoration work is ongoing. The basement will be accessible to the public again in 2011.
  • At this moment we are restoring the walls, as well as the electrical installations, in the entire Castle.
  • On the Beletage scaffolding has been put up for the restoration of the walls in the Main Hall. The scaffolding will be taken down in mid-October.
  • Part of the Beletage will stay open to the public throughout the restoration work. However, construction work takes place in every room (from Monday to Friday). This may cause some inconvenience.
  • In some rooms you might see loose electrical wires and other construction materials, we would like to emphasise that the situation is safe. There are no live wires.
  • Because of the restoration work, part of our (furniture) collection is in storage.
  • Because of the restoration, the Castle is not wheelchair accessible. There is no elevator and a temporary staircase (of scaffolding material) has been put up. Please note that we strongly advice guests who have trouble walking to postpone their visit to the castle until mid-October.
  • Completion of the restoration (minor activities) will take place from mid-October to mid-December.

Work outside:

  • The restoration of the outer walls of the castle has been completed.
  • The building sites around the Castle and Châtelet are still in place because of the work being carried out inside the buildings.
  • The deer enclosure has been restored in the past few months. The fence around it will be put in place in September. Next Spring, the deer will return to their renewed enclosure.
